Urk. My apt is messed up -- I asked Synaptic to install Pan, and it
presented me with a dialog box:

   [50-some packages]

   [30-some packages]

[Cancel] [OK]

No thanks, I'll go for source.

That is, unless there's an apt wizard in the audience.
