Debian will be around a LONG time, just because it's not subject to the
vaguaries of business/commerce. However, you might be able to simply
substitute "ie" for "us" in us.archive.ubuntu.com. I do this type of
thing when I have trouble with US Debian servers.
You might check /etc/motd for a clue about your distro. If it's a Debian
derivative, check /etc/debian_version .
