Hi Pam,

It's a little utility for X, your graphics server. It probably won't make
an appearance in your application menu bar. To verify that it is installed
and functional you could try to run it with an "on" or "off" argument and
see if anything happens. You can do so by opening a shell window, or using
Alt-F2 in most desktop managers to run a command. The command to run will
be "numlockx on" or "numlockx off" ... is there a change in your numlock
status when you run those? If so, a solution that may work for you is to
have "numlockx off" run in your X session start up process (or remove
whatever is already in there that may be setting numlock on). I can help to
walk you through that if the "numlockx off" command seems to work for you.
Normally people use this utility to do the opposite... to automatically turn
numlock ON when X starts, but it can be used just as easily to turn numlock
off.

Thanks,
~ Daniel
