There were two main ways of doing dual-headed configurations. Xinerama, and
some other method that hadn't been around as long. I picked Xinerama --
even though it was harder to do -- in case the other method turned out to be
a flash in the pan. I didn't want to risk ending up with an orphaned
configuration.

As another example, all of my video components were connected by S-Video
(2nd best analog format). Then my stereo died, and in shopping for a
replacement it turns out S-Video was pretty well abandoned for
interconnection in favor of Component (YPrPb). Tough on me, most of my
stuff _doesn't_ speak Component. And amps that speak S-Video are pretty
rare.
