I've done this in Photoshop and GIMP. I make a copy of the photo and place text on top. Then I fade from photo #1 to photo #2, and all you see is the text fade in. You can separate sections by fading to a black image, then to a black image with text, then back to black, and now with photos. It sounds like a lot of work, but if you use layers, you can have a file with all the text in place and simply turn layers on/off and save to JPG. If you know the screen resolution of the display machine, go ahead and down-res the photo. Both PS and GIMP do a vastly better job of this than relying on slide-show software, and you don't tax the cpu by forcing it to down-res each shot.

If you are a Photoshop user, get GIMP-Shop. It is a fork of GIMP with PS-like menus and is much easier to use (IMHO).

Thanks Eben,

Yeah, I can do that, and have for individual photos, but what I really want to
do is insert a page (image of text) before a series of photos explaining what
is coming next. Maybe I'll try the Gimp.

Darn, I know that I did this before a couple of years ago.

PS I know that you are operating "temporarily" here, but you do realize you
are using html?
