Hmm, I have a Trident CyberBlade/i7 onboard on my laptop, and I haven't had a problem either with X 3.3.6 or with the 4.x series. I would venture to guess that these problems are fixed in the 4.x XF86 trident driver, so you could try installing testing's X packages.
