Try...

W2k -> Network -> TCP/IP, and NetBeui

TCP/IP should be configured in the advanced settings
to Netbios over IP skip the lmhosts file unless you're
crossing subnets.

I don't have a W2k machine here to double-check, but
there should also be an MS Client for microsoft
networks installed ( like w98se ). It might be
built-in in W2k though.

Both Samba server/client and W2k server/client should
be set for plain text passwords. You mentioned you
changed it for W2k; did you also change it for Samba?

Someone on the list might be able to say if W2k
netbios/over IP is compatible with Samba ... I think
not .. use Netbeui. There should not be any
difficulty having both installed for W2k.

The way I understand what you are trying to do is that
you have a netbios share being served by Samba, and
are trying to get to that share on a W2k machine. To
test configuration go to start menu -> run -> command.
 Ping netbios(samba) share name -> ie. "\\computer"
not "\\computer\share". For example: computer
"\\goofy" is sharing folder "bone". Ping "\\goofy"
not "\\goofy\bone", K. The "\\" is important, it
tells MS that it is an UNC name and queries WINS
instead of DNS.

Does this help?

Rob
