Not sure... But it looks like your /etc/hosts is at fault...

it should read something like this:

127.0.0.1 baglady localhost

That should fix it, one would think...

Otherwise, you have no localhost address...
That's why it says:
"# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
 # that require network functionality will fail."

That should probably say "Do not remove the localhost part or the
IP address otherwise nothing will be able to connect the the 'localhost'
address. Lots of different applications need to do that." or something.
