I'm using Debian testing with the Sarge installer.
I know not even the first thing about setting up sound in a Linux machine.
Every Linux machine I've installed has been either a random install just to see
what would happen or has been a server before this -- which, of course, means
that sound was not a necessary part of the deal, or even desirable in any way.
The only way any of these things had sound hardware at all is if it was
integrated with the motherboard. You'll have to speak to me on the level of an
ignorant little child for now, I'm afraid.
I fired up the machine. Unfortunately, I don't know how to "have the OS find
the hardware and configure it." I don't know which modules and/or software need
to be installed. If you could point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful.
