Not according to the HSQLDB folks, they say OpenOffice 2.0 is using HSQLDB:

I work on a standalone Java application (not client-server) and HSQLDB works
very well for the purpose since it's pure Java. You can run it in the same VM
or as a server which works well during development.

Does anyone else in SLUGadonia use HSQLDB? Anyone doing Java programming?
