Hi All
I hope an oldtimer on this list will recall how to set up a US Robotics Modem.
First I have 3 identical modems in 2 boxes and one spare modem and thy all do
the same thing in the same box so the issue is not hardware.
Second I have two boxes setting side by side one of which and old HP box that
was set up in the last century and the box that I am trying to reconnect
setting next to it. Yes reset up as the second box did function until I
trashed a HD and lost the system. Soft ware in both boxes is the same RH 6.3.
I have tried Mandrake 9.3 and 10.1 and SuSE 9.2 but they all have the same
issue besides the box has sliding drawers which allows me to use any one of
the other systems I choose but I returned to the RH 6.3 simply to make the
systems equal obviously to facilitate comparisons.
The issue
The modem is not being recognized by the operating system.
When I go to Kppp Configure -> Modem -> Query Modem the modem is not
recognized regardless of Modem Device Setting
Now as I recall what we did in the past was to comment out several lines of
one of the configuration files and add lines to a second configuration. The
help I need is in determining which files it is that were modified. Sorry I
can not find any notes that tell me and I have looked and looked but I can
not find the modem notes.
Any help in ascertaining which configuration files need to be modified would
be appreciated.
