Hi Everybody!
The last few months at our meetings at Latitude whatever - no one has
said anything about our cleaning up our tables after ourselves. Ditto at
Sarasota Coffee and Tea Company. But last night we were repeatedly
scolded to clean up after ourselves by this haggard old woman who works
there.
She was there last month too, but she didn't scold us then, unless she
scolded someone and I didn't see/hear it. It couldn't be time of the
month because it is the *same* time of the month and anyway she is of an
age somewhat beyond that.
I was one of the last to leave, she had scolded me even before I left
about cleaning the table. I had purchased a mocha something-or-other and
a water and I am very sure I put both the containers in the trash, hell,
she had just scolded me about it. I did not, however, run around and
find a towel to clean the table as though I was on Latitude whatever's
payroll for heaven's sake. Is this what I was supposed to do - clean the
tables as though I worked there?
Seems to me that the others at the next table had done pretty much the
same as I had about tossing their trash and had not left any particular
mess. Well, whatever I or some of the others did or didn't do - this
harridan followed us into the parking lot and hollered at me as I was
leaving that I hadn't cleaned up the tables.
This left me with such a bad taste in my mouth that I turned around on
my way home and checked a restaurant where another club I belong to
meets to see if they have Wi-fi. Alas, they don't have it.
If you go to McDonald's or Burger King they would for sure like you to
toss your trash but if you don't they never mention it. No way do they
ask you to wipe down your table. The drinks at Latitude whatever are a
good five times what McD or BK will charge, seems that the terms of
service should not be quite *this* micromanaging.
This said, had she been a 17 to 24 year old hottie I would have taken it
as a joke or written it off to inexperience. Given this woman's age and
appearance, though, it just seemed like someone's bitter old man-hating
ex-wife on the loose. Sort of a cross between an old Rosalind Russell
character and the wicked witch of the West.
Were we dissed? Should we be dissed, do we somehow deserve this?
