The one thing which usually does not happen is that support goes away, unless
it was not really possible due to poor firmware in the hardware, making
support too hard.

The thing to notice with Linux is that it is pretty easy to write drivers.
Indeed, when the first Haloween papers came out (a MS employee who researched
the Linux threat) he stated that it was so easy to do that he could not help
himself from writing a few.

Until I had checked the kernel configuration I would not give up. Chances are
support is just a kernel compile away.

recompile it with the same changes, or until your module got reincluded.

Once you get started with compiling the kernel you will be pleasantly
surprised how easy it is.
